Even if you can't afford to tear out your kitchen and start fresh, new countertops are a great start. Tile countertops especially age your home, so swapping them out for a quartz, marble, or granite alternative will not only make your home look more modern, but it will add value to your home.

Replace your old chandeliers with something more contemporary and streamlined. Fixtures that add whimsy and texture are very in right now, even in the form of flush mounts!

Out with the old built in jacuzzi tub (you know, the one you use as a laundry basket), and in with the freestanding tub! These tubs are both modern and charming and will make your home more desirable to buyers. Not selling anytime soon? Enjoy it for yourself!

If your fireplace is decked out in ceramic tile, it's time for a facelift. What's in? Well just about anything else goes at this point as long as it's full of character. Brick, stone, concrete, and marble all add charm and, with the right decor, coziness no matter the season.
Window Treatments
It's a bitter pill to swallow when you remember how much you spent on your custom floral and lace window treatments, but the truth is they are dating your home and making your space feel smaller. Opt for some Roman shades or velvet or linen curtains instead.
Pro tip: Hang curtain rods above the window to add height to your room!
